Campus with long history

Georgikon Campus has an outstanding agricultural, cultural and historical value for Keszthely that is located at Lake Balaton. The predecessor of Georgikon Campus was the first agricultural higher education institution in Hungary and Europe, and it is still a prestigious symbol of the Hungarian agricultural tradition. It has a farm for practical training, education and research since its foundation. In addition the campus's main attraction is Lake Balaton, the so-called Hungarian Sea.

Lakeshore water sports facilities

As a lakeshore campus, water sports play a significant role in the university sports life of Keszthely. In addition to trainings on water, students can have trainings with rowing machines in the gym. Their teams participate in the events of Balaton Regatta and several other championships every year. Contact: Dr. Ákos Pintér (pinter.akos@uni-mate.hu)

Yellowing

Yellowing, first held in 1884, is the oldest student tradition of Georgikon Campus and the students are most proud of it. Graduates go to serenade their favourite professors and instructors. Dressed in fancy dresses, they hold a fun jug ceremony and then say goodbye to their beloved city and university with a torchlight procession.

University days
The students graduating from the Georgikon retain the nicest memories of this event when the students and the academic staff spend together 3 days in competitions and games. The winning team can designate the student rector or the student vice rector.

Degree Awarding Ceremony

The ceremony (in literal translation “Yellowing” symbolising the ripe crops) is organised in the town of Keszthely where the graduating students are bidding farewell to their student years within a traditional background. Following the festivity the students give a serenade to their teachers and parade with torches at night passing in front of the major institutions and their leaders. At the end of the 3-day program the students ride to the Festetics Castle in beautifully decorated coaches where they close the ceremony with a traditional dance and the farmers’ hymn.

Regatta

Following the model of the traditional Oxford-Cambridge rowing competition the Veszprém and Keszthely campuses organise the Regatta every spring. Supported by a cheerful crowd the race takes place in turns on one of the campuses with the participations of junior and senior teams in specially built boats.
