Szendrey Júlia Memorial House

Szendrey Júlia Memorial House

Last modified: 14. December 2022

Júlia Szendrey was born in Újmajor (New manor), today Szendrey-telep, in Keszthely in 1828. Her father was the farm-bailiff of the Festetics Estates. Júlia Szendrey was an excellent writer and poet, although she became famous for being the muse of Sándor Petőfi, and the inspirer of perhaps the most beautiful love poems of world literature.

The Municipality of Keszthely had the house renovated in 2009, and the MATE Georgikon Campus, in cooperation with the Petőfi Literary Museum, furnished the memorial room and agreed to maintain it as an exhibition.
